The role of AI in rich media production.
At Curio, we are actively exploring how generative AI tools can enhance the way we create rich media.
We use these tools to improve quality, accelerate production, and expand creative possibilities across video, animation, graphics and audio. All AI-supported content is developed under human direction and reviewed for accuracy and impact.
Supporting creativity and speed
AI tools now support multiple points in our workflow. We use them to draft scripts, generate placeholder voiceovers, explore animation or illustration concepts, and test different graphic design directions. This means we can move quickly from a brief to a first concept, helping clients see and shape the work earlier.
AI-assisted scripting helps generate initial voiceover drafts from learning outcomes. Text-to-image tools allow us to visualise graphic elements or animation frames. Design tools can explore branding treatments or visual themes before committing design hours to refinement. AI voiceovers can be used for early iterations or final delivery, depending on client needs.
These capabilities allow us to focus more of our team’s time on what matters most: refining ideas, elevating quality, and building learning experiences that work.
Flexible and aligned to client preferences
We only use AI tools with the client’s knowledge and consent. Some clients are actively exploring AI-enabled workflows. Others prefer a fully human-led approach. We support both. At the start of each project, we confirm which tools may be used and where.
We also offer AI-enabled options for multilingual captioning, translation, and voiceover. These help extend access, reduce turnaround time, and support inclusive learning. All use of AI tools is flagged clearly in project documentation and proposals.
Transparent, ethical and human-led
All AI-generated content is reviewed, edited and approved by our learning designers, producers, editors and illustrators. We do not release outputs without human oversight. We do not use tools that compromise client privacy, IP or accessibility standards.
We follow Curio’s internal AI Tools Framework for Learning. This framework governs the responsible use of AI in our work and includes:
- A live list of approved, under evaluation, and excluded tools
- Criteria to assess educational impact, risk and suitability
- Clear guidance on disclosure, security and quality assurance
- Team training and protocols to ensure safe and consistent use
Our current tools in use or testing include ElevenLabs (AI voice), Descript (video editing), RunwayML (video effects), Midjourney (visual concepting), Gamma (storyboarding), and D-ID (avatar video). We also work within client-approved platforms when required.
A creative future, shaped together
We see AI as an enabler, not a replacement. It gives us more ways to bring ideas to life, deliver faster without compromising quality, and personalise learning experiences. But the decisions always rest with our clients. We work in partnership to ensure AI is used appropriately, transparently and in service of great design and great learning.
If you are exploring AI in your teaching, content creation or design systems, we can support you with insight, tools and experience. If you are not ready, we will deliver high-quality content the way we always have — with care, creativity and attention to detail.
