What is Learning Journal?

A journaling tool for Canvas and Moodle that embeds reflective learning and closes the feedback loop.

The Learning Journal is a tool designed by Curio to foster deeper engagement and reflection within online and blended learning environments. Seamlessly integrated into LMS platforms like Canvas and Moodle, it empowers instructors to create structured journaling tasks that encourage students to think critically, make connections, and track their learning over time.

Key Benefits

  • Promotes reflective learning through prompt-driven entries.
  • Integrated experience within Canvas and Moodle—no separate logins required.
  • Customisable templates for tasks with tables, prompts, and WYSIWYG formatting.
  • Private student entries by default, with export options.
  • Instructor review and feedback, including optional grading integration.
  • Supports formative and summative assessment strategies.

Who is it for?

  • Instructors and facilitators – to design prompts, review entries, and support reflective practice.
  • Students – to journal responses, build a reflective portfolio, and engage personally with learning material.
  • Learning designers and LMS admins – to support implementation and customisation.

How does it work?

Instructors create journaling tasks, either stand-alone or embedded directly into LMS content. Students respond within the LMS interface, saving entries privately or submitting them as assessments (when enabled). The instructor can review entries, offer feedback, and track engagement over time.

Where is it available?

The Learning Journal currently supports:

  • Canvas LMS via LTI integration
  • Moodle via external tool setup
